Carolina Legal Associates
CLA has an immediate need for a full-time legal assistant and receptionist for a public interest organization located in Rock Hill, SC. The legal assistant will be responsible for developing, implementing, and carrying out efficient and effective mechanisms to provide high-quality legal and administrative support to the attorneys in a non-profit law firm that protects the rights and represents the interests of the low-income community. Sample Responsibilities:
- Word processing, transcribing dictation, draft and finalizing correspondence and documents
- Maintaining attorney calendar, recording and monitoring court appearance dates, pleadings, and filing requirements
- Provide administrative support to ensure a smooth daily workflow in order to meet project deadlines. This includes word processing, photocopying and scanning, processing of mail and performance of other clerical duties
- Create, edit, and proofread legal documents, forms, and correspondence to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Answers, screens, and directs telephone calls appropriately
- Conducts intake and prescreening for eligibility
- May assist paralegals and attorneys with various tasks
- Assist on special projects
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of secretarial experience, law firm setting preferred
- Satisfactory completion of post-high school coursework from an accredited program of secretarial, business, paralegal, or a closely related curriculum
- Excellent typing, filing, and other clerical skills
- Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office products, Adobe, and internet research tools
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact on a professional level
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Detailed-oriented, organized, and manages change effectively
- Cultural humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency;
- Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision;
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Strong Typing skills
