CLA is looking for the ideal candidate to fill a full-time staff attorney position in the Greenville, SC area. The attorney will provide substantive legal assistance and representation to low-income eligible clients. We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy that is willing to learn and assist with the diverse legal needs of underserved and vulnerable communities. The legal needs of this non-profit’s clients encompass multiple civil litigation practice areas depending on client needs including social security, public benefits, housing, consumer law, education law, tax law, probate, family law, and employment law.

Sample Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advocacy to low-income clients in civil litigation matters including delivering high-quality legal representation in administrative, state, and federal forums.
  • Developing and implementing case and issue strategies.
  • Preparing for and conducting hearings and trials.
  • Preparing cases on appeal.
  • Performing legal research, analysis, and writing including drafting of pleadings, briefs, and orders, preparation and review of discovery, and motion practice.

Minimum requirements and other qualifications:

  • Committed and energetic person with strong analytical, research, and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency.
  • Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proof-reading skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic team.
